Fractus is a rock band from Christchurch, New Zealand. It was formed in late 2019 by Mike and Jack McCammon, Torne Ponting, and Josh (A.K.A. Fappy). Mike (lead guitar) and his flatmate Torne (bass) had been jamming in Mike’s bandroom. They invited Jack (guitar and vocals) to come and play drums and jam on some riffs that Mike had written. A few months later, Fappy joined the band as a drummer and Jack switched to guitar and started writing some lyrics to the songs.
By the end of the summer of 2019 the band had 9 songs and had a new name, Fractus, after having been briefly dubbed ‘Fappy and the Dolphins’ by Fappy. At the start of Autumn 2020 Fractus recorded their first demo at Mike’s band room using a laptop. Jack took the audio files home to work on just before New Zealand went into lockdown in response to the covid-19 crisis. Being in lockdown allowed Jack to focus on recording the vocals and producing the final mix, in between shifts working at a government call centre.
A few weeks later and we have finished our debut self-titled demo: Fractus. We hope that it brings you some joy in these depressing times. Or, if not, at least it could help you vent some frustration. We enjoyed making it, and we hope our joy and passion that we poured into this project is evident in the final product.
